Passion Growers’ Roses Offered as Thank You to Mayfield Florist Blood Drive Donors
November 26th, 2011
Passion Growers’ friends at Mayfield Florist, along with the American Red Cross teamed up on Nov. 26, 2011 for a blood drive. Since 2003, Don Coleman, co-owner of Mayfield Florist, has been working with the American Red Cross to hold the Blood Drive in Honor of his son Sean Coleman, whose life was saved by a blood transfusion following a heart transplant when he was only four months old.
Sean Coleman was diagnosed days after his birth with a heart defect that lead to the thickening of the heart walls and eventually limited the pumping action of the organ. His parents had lost Sean’s older brother, Patrick, to the disease four months before Sean was born.
Sean was placed on a transplant waiting list and, when he was 4 months old, on Nov. 29, 1995; he became the youngest heart transplant patient at University Medical Center. Today Sean is an active normal sophomore in high school and an amazing young man. Don, who is co-owner of Mayfield Florist, schedules the blood drive around the anniversary of his son’s successful operation. Each donor received a bouquet of Passion Growers’ roses as a Thank You for those who gave blood. Donors also had the option to “Pay it Forward” and donate their roses to either Peppi’s House (TMC Hospice) or the Diamond Children’s Medical Center.

PASSION GROWERS LENDS SUPPORT FOR THE 2011 SAN DIEGO 3-DAY FOR THE CURE, ONE PINK ROSE AT A TIME
November 16th, 2011
We’ve all been touched by breast cancer in some way and we remain optimistic that we will live to see the day when they find a cure. By joining together in this most fabulous team effort, we gain strength along our journey. Not just our legs and our bodies getting stronger from all the miles we walk while training, but from the friendships we build and the bonds we create. The 3-Day 60 mile walk had two basic objectives, to raise money to find a cure and to raise awareness of the disease. Every 13 minutes someone in the United States will lose their battle with breast cancer. The Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk team Powered By Optimism wants to make a visual statement that will reflect this statistic. During the 60 mile walk, 272 people in the United States will die from breast cancer! For every life lost, walkers will carry a pink rose. At the start of day two, 110 pink roses were carried and on day three 220 pink roses were carried. At the end of the three day walk, 272 pink roses represented the lives lost.
Over the last few years, Passion Growers has been committed to helping raise awareness and funds for Breast Cancer research and education. We congratulate all of the walkers who helped to raise money and awareness during the 2011 San Diego 3-Day for the Cure walk. We salute you.
